
Since 2001, the New York Police Department has reduced the number of uniformed officers on city streets. However, the NYPD has also grown the ranks of its elite K-9 squads in the world. Imported from Central and Eastern Europe, these animals can pursue criminals, track missing persons, locate dead bodies, sniff out explosive chemicals and —in the case of Danz, one the NYPD’s treasured K-9s— conduct transit patrols in city subways.
